Divorce Diet: Does It Work?

We’re well-used to hearing about the latest extreme diets coming out of Hollywood. From cabbage to ceyene pepper we’ve seen it all – or so we thought. It now seems that there’s a wave of celebrities experiencing the Divorce Diet – a drastic weight loss due to emotional strife!

Untying the knot certainly seemed to cause Demi Moore to drop weight. She had married Ashton Kutcher in 2005, but after uncovering his infidelity they parted in November 2011. As their union neared its final days, Moore reportedly dropped a ton of weight. By the spring of 2012, nutritionist and author of “The Hamptons Diet,” Dr. Fred Pescatore, told Radar Online that he believed the 5’5” actress weighed as little as 100 pounds.

In January 2012, Eva Longoria opened up to Health magazine about her post-split weight loss: “I remember after my divorce, I was so thin and everyone kept saying how great I looked.” The Desperate Housewife had divorced Tony Parker after three years of marriage but thinks her weight loss was too extreme: “It was probably the most unhealthy place I’ve ever been. So it was funny what people would see as ‘healthy.’ In my worst time, people were saying I’ve never looked better.”

The most famous divorcee at the moment is of course, Tom Cruise, and there’s no denying that he’s shed the pounds since Katie Holmes left him. Since they parted ways, Cruise has reportedly dropped 15 pounds and looks gaunt in recent newspaper pictures. “Tom is refusing to slow down and is trying to soldier on,” say insiders. “He doesn’t seem to be himself. He hasn’t been working out like he normally does and doesn’t appear to be eating well at all. His clothes just hang off him. His way of dealing with this is to throw himself into his work, but as a result he’s not looking after himself.”

Losing (or gaining weight) after an emotinal break-up is common – it seems we literally lose our appetite. Food and drink are an intimate part of everyone’s daily lives – our tastes and temptations are woven into our emotions. Of course, losing weight this way is too extreme and there’s little guarantee that when happier times return that you’ll keep the pounds off.

If you’re struggling with your weight, it’s far better to launch a healthy diet and exercise routine. Many clinics also offer weightloss techniques, aids and programs. The Divorce Diet is certainly one Hollywood trend you don’t want to follow!
