Laser Tattoo Removal: Mark Wahlberg Gets Rid Of Tats

Part of actor Mark Wahlberg’s image was that of the ‘bad boy’. In fact, when he was younger he reckons he was in trouble with the police 20-30 times. So it’s not surprising that he’s got a few dodgy tattoos dotted around his body. Or should I say, used to have? Because the 40 year old ex-rapper has had laser tattoo removal to erase the etchings from his body.

Most prominant on Wahlberg’s body was the Bob Marely tattoo on his arm and the string of rosemary beads around his neck. As you can see from our ‘before’ and ‘after’ pic – both have now disappeared!

Wahlberg says he had the laser removal treatments because he didn’t want any of his four children copying him and getting inked. He also said that he was fed-up sitting in the make-up chair and having them covered-up for his movie scenes.

How does laser tattoo removal work?

The pigment in a tattoo is selectively destroyed using a wavelength of laser light that is specific for the pigment colour. A high amount of energy is absorbed by the tattoo in a very short duration of time causing micro-explosion of pigment in the skin. The exploded pigment is then removed naturally by the body. Laser tattoo removal is most effective for dark black, blue and red tattoo’s because the lasers that can specifically target these colours. Yellow, orange and green pigment is far more difficult to remove.
