Ulrika Jonsson backs celebs who discuss cosmetic surgery

Ulrika Jonsson has said Kelly Brook was wrong to criticise celebrities who openly talk about their cosmetic surgery.

Brook said in a newspaper interview last week that she had never been under the knife and argued that famous people should not discuss their cosmetic surgery because it made “other women feel devalued”.

But Jonsson, who had a £6,000 breast reduction operation in 2009, hit back in a column in the Sun, claiming it was the 32-year-old 34E-24-34 model, with her “fabulous genes”, who made other women feel bad about themselves.

The 44-year-old wrote: “One look at you is enough for the rest of us to climb back under the duvet and stay there. But to hear you lambasting women less happy with their body, who have opted for surgery, is like a Porsche bitching about a Reliant Robin. Kelly, some of us weren't born with the fabulous genes you've inherited."

She added that plenty of women had to “battle to stay in shape” and for some, no amount of exercise could fix bad genes or the effects of ageing.

Referring to her decision to have a breast reduction, the mother-of-four said after her pregnancies “it was like walking around with two ping-pong balls in bin liners” and she “couldn’t wait to have surgery”.

She continued: “Although I chose the opposite to most women by having a breast reduction, I felt it was important to talk about it. Kelly, you say that women talking about cosmetic procedures ‘devalues’ women. If, by that, you mean it cheapens them — I think you're wrong.

"Celebs talking about what they've had done is one of the most honest, even liberating, things they can do. Making others believe the way you look is either natural or the result of strict exercise is what really makes the rest of us want to pack it all in."
