Brides-to-be have long gone to some far extremes to make their wedding days as perfect as possible, but new figures have shown that many are now even going under the cosmetic surgeon's knife just to look perfect on their big days, in a new phenomenon dubbed 'bridalplasty'.
One of these brides, Linsey Ray, told the Good Morning America programme that she had taken huge steps to slim down naturally from her original size 22 even before she was engaged to be married. When her fiancé did propose to her, however, the excess skin that the weight-loss had left her with was something that she decided she did not want to have on her big day.
"I know it sounds crazy but… it is the worst thing in the world to literally wear three tank tops to hold all your suction in, everything and so it's worth it for me," said 26-year-old Linsey, who opted to have a tummy tuck and a breast lift in the midst of the more mundane wedding preparations.
Also speaking to Good Morning America, cosmetic surgeon, Dr Tenley Lawton said that a high proportion of his patients are now brides-to-be, who want surgery or enhancements before their wedding. Those who opt for liposuction or tummy tucks often do so to supplement weight loss they have already managed, but some just have the work instead of putting in the time diet.
He did say that some do go for very simple procedures, such as Botox injections – not just in their face, but in places where perspiration could affect their treasured dresses – while others can have far more intensive work.
Bridalplasty can have a huge effect, not just on the bride's appearance, but also on the bottom line of the bill for the event. At $20,000, Linsey's cosmetic surgery cost almost a7s much as the total price of the rest of the wedding.
