With male grooming is becoming ever more acceptable among more image conscious men, a growing trend for the use of Botox is emerging among metrosexuals all over the world.
Labelled 'Bro-tox' by industry observers, increasing numbers of men are taking to the wrinkle-reducing treatment, following in the footsteps of celebrities such as Simon Cowell and David Hasselhoff, who have long been devotees of the injections.
Figures in the US have shown that more than 300,000 men in America underwent Botox injections in 2011 alone, with many other option for other cosmetic surgery procedures, including fillers, implants and liposuction.
A group of these modern men recently spoke out on popular morning show, Good Morning America, explaining that they had experienced many positive knock-on effects from their image enhancing efforts.
38-year-old Marc (who did not want to publish his surname), from Detroit, Michigan, said his wife had given him his course of Botox injections for Christmas, and now regularly has the treatment performed on his frown lines and crows feet after immediately taking to it.
"The card was very nice, but then there was a little note that said… Botox on it, and I was a little shocked… It's just not anything I thought I would do for myself," he explained, stating that his wife had bought the gift after hearing him express how much he thought he had aged.
"We were looking at old pictures… and I said, 'Man, I've aged these last couple of years'," said Marc, adding that he would not rule out expanding the portfolio of procedures he would consider. "If they had a good hair system… I might take her up on the hair."
Marc's doctor, Dr Anthony Youn, who also appeared on the show, said many of the men he now treats would not typically be seen as types who care so much about their appearance, indicating how 'de rigueur' the procedures have become among men of all professions and proclivities.
"A lot of times they're men you wouldn't necessarily see coming into a plastic surgeon's office," Dr Youn said. "They're not the stereotypical guy who really, cares about grooming and exactly how he looks."
