Cosmetic surgeons reporting highest demand ever

According to a new report published in the Wall Street Journal, cosmetic surgery clinics based all over the world are currently experiencing their busiest time of the year.

As customers rush to book in for cosmetic procedures including facelifts, liposuction and breast augmentation before the New Year, surgeons are faced with skyrocketing demand – and a growing waiting list.

Such is the demand from many clients that some cosmetic surgeons told the newspaper that they will have carried out twice as many procedures over the last few days between Christmas and New Year as they would normally have done over the course of the same time period.

As well as wanting a new look to usher in the New Year, clients also choose this time of year to have procedures done as they take advantage of the time off work in order to recuperate following the processes.

Houston, Texas-based plastic surgeon Dr Franklin Rose, told the Wall Street Journal that the most popular procedures booked by customers for December include those which have amongst the longest recovery times, such as facelifts, which can result in swelling.

Dr Rose reported that he had been carrying out around 20 procedures each week – double his normal volume – over the festive period, making it by far his busiest time of the year.

“With surgeons in December, you can have some unhappy wives,” Dr Rose joked to the newspaper.

In related news, liposuction has been voted the most popular cosmetic procedure of 2011 by American Health and Beauty magazine.

The 2011 Readers’ Choice Awards cited liposuction as having the ‘most dramatic and transformative’ results, as it removes stubborn fat in order to allow clients to achieve the figure of their dreams.
