The rise of ‘teen-toxing’

Teenage girls are well-known for being interested in their appearance, and now a new trend reveals just how passionate they are about looking and feeling their very best.

According to a recent investigation carried out by the Daily Mirror newspaper, teenagers are responsible for a 15 per cent rise in demand in botox – which can help to plump and firm skin, minimising the appearance of fine lines.

The botox market is now worth a staggering £18 million a year in the UK, with this ‘teen-toxing’ trend beginning to play an increasingly large part.

A recent survey carried out by Girlguiding UK revealed that five per cent of teenage girls have considered having Botox, whilst 48 per cent would seriously consider having some form of cosmetic procedure carried out.

More than 12,000 teenagers based in the US had botox in 2009, with some as young as 13 years of age.
Many teenagers are opting to have botox as they follow in the lead of well-known TV and film celebrities and pop-stars.

Recently, teenager and star of popular reality TV show ‘The Only Way is Essex,’ (TOWIE) Harry Derbidge, 17, indulged in botox injections in order to boost his appearance and confidence. One of the young finalists on the reality singing competition ‘The X-Factor,’ Marcus Collins, 23, also recently had botox, as did musical ‘Glee’ star Charice Pempengco, 18.

The newspaper also reported that the most famous glamour model in the country, Katie Price, 32, recently raved about the wonders of botox. “Looking after my skin is not my strong point but the two things that do make my skin better are sunbeds and Botox.

“I get my forehead and around my eyes botoxed every six months and I love it. You can’t beat it,” Price gushed.
