Alongside a dramatic rise in the number of couples over the age of 60 deciding to divorce, many are turning to cosmetic surgery in an attempt to change their lives.
Divorce rates in the UK were found to be increasing among the over-60s age group, according to new figures compiled by the Office for National Statistics.
These ‘silver separators’ were then looking to reinvent themselves and make some changes to their lives, revealed Marketing Week. One way in which many of them – especially women – were finding to do this was to book in for a cosmetic surgery procedure.
Some of the most sought-after procedures booked by women were facelifts, liposuction and breast-lifts, as they hunted for a way to delay the signs of ageing, increase their confidence in their looks and appearance and perhaps even re-enter the dating game with a whole new look.
Older, recently divorced men were also looking towards cosmetic surgery in a bid to obtain more confidence. Popular surgeries for the men included rhinoplasty, liposuction and botox, as they sought to minimise the appearance of fine lines and facial wrinkles.
However, they were still in the minority, with the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons revealing that women accounted for 90 per cent of all those who underwent cosmetic procedures in the UK last year.
Matrimonial law specialist Davina Hay spoke to Marketing Week about the rising trend of older divorcees opting for cosmetic surgery, saying, “Whatever the reason for divorce, many newly-separated people in their 50s and 60s have got money to spend and so are looking for ways to spend it. It might be the plastic surgeon, an exotic holiday or a move to a warmer climate.”
