Protecting the skin ‘essential’ following surgery, says TV expert

According to a TV makeover expert, protecting the skin following facial cosmetic surgery procedures of any kind is essential.

South African-born personal fashion stylist Nicky Hambleton-Jones – who was the former host of Channel 4’s popular makeover programme ‘Ten Years Younger’ – advised taking extra care over skincare following surgery.

Hambleton-Jones said, “By wearing a good pair of sunglasses, you will protect your eyes from these rays and also stop squinting, which can contribute to developing crow’s feet.”

The stylist did away with the belief that sunglasses only needed to be worn on sunny days – even overcast days can damage the skin as harmful UV rays can still be present, and skin and eyes that have recently undergone a cosmetic procedure will be more sensitive than ever.

People who have recently had blepharoplasty – a cosmetic surgery procedure that removes the excess fat and loose skin around the eye area – are especially advised to wear sunglasses, and to invest in a good moisturizer.

The cream should contain a high sun protection factor (SPF) in order to provide the maximum protection for the sensitive eye area – the skin around the eyes can be more than 40 times thinner than the skin on the rest of the face.

Those who are trying to stave off the signs of ageing should purchase a good eye cream and specialist anti-ageing facial moisturizer to nourish the skin and keep it looking supple, smooth and youthful, added Hambleton-Jones.
