Chinese Graduates Fuelling Cosmetic Surgery Demand

SURGEONRecord numbers of Chinese students are graduating from UK universities – seven times more than 15 years ago. However with graduate unemployment rates among new graduates six months after they leave uni is believed to be around 30 per cent the Chinese students appear to be taking drastic action.

To give themselves that extra bit of edge in the competitive job market many of the students are having cosmetic surgery operations such as eyelid surgery, nosejobs and liposuction.

There are now cosmetic surgery adverts appearing around universities to feed demand from the graduate sector and it seems the Chinese are taking up the offers.

Stephen Handisides, Presenter on the Stephen Handisides’ TV Show, said: “It’s understandable that with such a competitive job market students are looking for a way to have an ‘edge’ over others.

“However, cosmetic surgery clinics should ensure that a thorough and comprehensive consultation is conducted and that psychological scrutiny takes place.

“It would be awful if a student regretted the decision and was acting merely under the pressure of wanting work. Graduating in your early 20s is a young age for many cosmetic surgery procedures so surgeons and clinics need to be rigorous to avoid malpractice claims.”
