Rugby Lads Turn To Botox

They are more used to battling on a cold, muddy rugby pitch but it seems the Bradford Bulls’ rugby league team in Leeds are turning to Botox in an attempt to win one battle – against the problem of excess sweating.

Hyperhidrosis – or excessive sweating as your doctor will call it – affects around one in 100 people of all ages and groups and the Bradford Bulls team are no exception.

Several of the hard men on the team have visited a salon for Botox injections in their armpits as a way to control their sweating. Heath L’Estrange, an Australian professional rugby league footballer for the Bradford Bulls, who had the treatment said: “A few of the lads get really sweaty and a couple have tried other ways of stopping it, like sprays, but nothing has worked.”

The rugby league players are used to pain but admitted there was nervousness at the thought of receiving the injections. Half-back Jarrod Sammut said: “It was the talking about it beforehand that was the worst part.”

He also confessed that the anti sweating injections were more to prevent awkard moments when on a night out on the town, than on the rugby pitch.
