Hey – guess what? Men get wrinkles too! And as I hit 40 this year, the one thing I certainly noticed was that my ‘laughter lines’ AKA ‘crow’s feet’ were taking over. Luckily I’m from the George Clooney school of growing old – look rugged, embrace your ageing and stay sexy, however when temptation was placed in my path who was I to say “no”?
The temptation was in the form of the Sublative Rejuvenation Treatment at the Skin Associates Clinic, London. The treatment is a highly effective, safe and technologically proven skin resurfacing treatment. It targets the surface of the skin to provide wrinkle reduction and is perfect for lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, acne, scaring and enlarged pores.
As a bloke this information is interesting, but all I really want to know is “does it hurt?”
Once I’m laid on a bed in a reassuringly luxurious treatment room, I discover that the answer to that question is “yes”. The device targets small areas of the skin (mine were aimed around the eye area) and a series of laser beams fire heat into the upper dermis where it produces the collagen that will fill out the crow’s feet. This causes a sharp pain each time the beam is fired. Of course, I’m a man, so I’m convinced that a woman having the treatment wouldn’t bat an eyelid.
If you’ve ever had the DermaRoller treatment – where a spiked roller injures the skin to create more collagen production – then the Sublative is like a DermaRoller on steroids.
24 hours later and the wrinkles are visibly disappearing. There’s some red marking hiding the results so soon after the treatment, but 48 hours later and that has calmed down, revealing the face I had in my 20s.
For two days after the treatment I kept outdoor visits to a minimum – eyebrows would definitley be raised as to my red face – but 72 hours later I’m more than happy to head out and show-off my wrinkle-free eye area. Even better – I’m told that the results keep developing over the next two months.
If you’re prepared to endure the uncomfortable sensation of the device heating your skin and then have a few days in hiding this treatment is a fantastic alternative to the treatments involving needles, fillers and frozen faces.
