Irish men flocking to cosmetic surgery clinics

An increasing number of Irish men are opting for cosmetic surgery procedures of some sort, according to new research.

Wicklow-based Cosmedico Clinic has reported a sharp rise in interest from men, who are choosing treatments ranging from facelifts to liposuction.

Ailish Kelly from the clinic said that many men are choosing surgery in a bid to get back into the dating scene or to improve their performance in the workplace.

Ms Kelly said: “It has definitely doubled over the past year. Even since June of this year, the increase in males has been huge. Facelifts are becoming more and more popular with men. We have a 40/60 split with men and women having facelifts. A lot of these men are separated men who are back on the scene or men who have lost their jobs. That is probably linking in with the climate we are in, in that they just want to look better."

“They are in competition with younger, better-looking guys and they don't want to look old, and they don't want to look tired. They're getting work done. Facial surgery is becoming huge. They're spending their redundancy money to go out and get another job,” she added.

A rising number of men are also choosing to have liposuction as they look to remove stubborn areas of fat that they have not been able to shift through healthy eating or exercise. Some men are also asking for a ‘six-pack’ look, which can be created using a special liposuction technique.

Men are also booking in for rhinoplasty and gynecomastia procedures – a procedure which removes male chest fat. The latter is said to be one of the fastest growing procedures to be carried out amongst men.
