Cosmetic surgery for couples taking off

A new trend within the cosmetic surgery world is the growing prevalence of couples having procedures together.

Couples cosmetic surgery is the next big thing, according to industry experts, as both spouses or partners seek to keep up with the other in the looks department.

Dr Mitchell Chasin, medical director of Reflections Centre in New Jersey, told MSNBC that times had certainly changed. “Years ago, we would see a wife come in and she would say, ‘I can’t let my husband know what I’m doing’. And then the husband would come in and he would say, ‘You know what, this is a secret, please don’t tell my wife’,” he explained.

One couple that chose to undergo treatments together was Ira and Roberta Almeas, who both wanted to ensure that they looked as best as they possibly could for each other. According to Today magazine, Ira Almeas told his wife: “If you’re gonna look good, I want to look good!”

The couple revealed that they are attending their local cosmetic surgery clinic together on a regular basis, enjoying a series of anti-ageing treatments such as dermal fillers and botox, amongst other procedures.

“I think it’s a great experience to grow younger together," Ira said. "We feel a little bit more refreshed, a little bit more energetic, and it’s just another part of our life together that we’re sharing."

Medical editor for NBC, Dr Nancy Synderman, attributed the new trend for couples cosmetic surgery to the growing interest men are showing in having both surgical and non-surgical procedures carried out, and the growing acceptance of them doing so.
