Can you get a 6 pack without trying?

Sculpted, beach-body torsos are great. The problem is, getting a 6 pack is a lot of effort, with a serious commitment to both diet and abs-busting exercise. But is there a way to get that gym-honed physique without putting in the time and willpower?

Next generation liposuction, Vaser Hi-Definition, not only removes the fat but sculpts the tissue in tummy area to leave you looking more defined. It uses ultrasound technology to break up the fat cells which are then sucked out. It’s still a surgical procedure, but it can be done under local anaesthetic so you can go home the same day.

A procedure that gives you Victoria’s Secret Angel abs and has you home for dinner? Sounds ideal, no? Well, there’s a lot more to it than that. So says Dr Dennis Wolf at Harley Street’s The Private Clinic, who is one of the few doctors in the UK offering Vaser Hi-Definition and has pioneered a procedure using the technology on the thighs.

“It works by removing the fat that surrounds muscle groups to enhance the visibility of the underlying musculature. This is done by working on the positive and negative spaces,” he explains. “The results are much more defied than those created with regular liposuction. It’s often chosen to create strong-looking pectorals, defined upper arms, an athletic six pack or strong back.”

No quick fix

So far so good, however Dr Wolf quickly shuts down the theory that Vaser is a cheat’s way to an instant 6 pack.

“The treatment allows for muscle structures to become more defined and prominent but, to achieve the best results, it is imperative to combine this with regular exercise and healthy eating,” he says. In fact, he won’t do the treatment on patients that are overweight and not doing any exercise. “This treatment should build on and enhance the body, not secure an instant six pack without undertaking any form of exercise,” he adds.

While it might not take us from coach potato to Jessica Ennis-Hill is a matter of hours, this treatment still has pretty impressive results. It has all the benefits of liposuction – reducing the superficial and deeper fat – and has low down time as it’s done under local anaesthetic. Providing you keep up the exercise and don’t gain a significant amount of weight, your new sculpted abs will last.

However this means that it’s crucial to chose an experienced practitioner. “What distinguishes this procedure is its ability to sculpt, define and shape prominent muscle areas. It requires extensive experience and specialist knowledge,” explains Dr Wolf. “You need to be able to take into account the way in which the patient will move their body, the way in which they sit and walk around.”
