What's a Y-Lift?
According to countless studies high cheek bones and a soft but well-defined jaw are the biggest subconscious indicators of youth. It even has a name – the triangle of youth! But as we all know few things in life are as inevitable as gravity's toll on our skin, so for those of us whose triangle is starting to resemble a pyramid, there’s the Y-Lift!
The Y-Lift is a technique for lifting and volumising the face using a combination of dermal fillers and Botox. Following a Y-lift the widest point of the face will be the cheeks tapering down into a softly defined jaw (hence the Y shape).
There is a great deal of artistry and skill to a Y-lift and it’s important it is carried out by an experienced practitioner knowledgeable of the anatomy of the face. The aim should be on making the patient look refreshed and rejuvenated putting back lost volume, not volume that wasn’t there in the first place. This less is more approach delivers a balanced and natural look.
My filler of choice for the Y-Lift is Juvaderm Ultra an FDA approved next-generation hyaluronic acid dermal filler that comes in the form of a soft, malleable gel. The consistency of the product means it takes longer for the body to break it down, so typically the results last for 12 months or more. In addition the hyaluronic acid deeply moisturises your skin from the inside giving it a rejuvenated look from the outside.
I place Juvaderm Ultra in the cheek bone area to add youthful volume and create a mid-face lift. I also place it in the nasolabial folds, the corners of the mouth to tip the mouth up, and the marionette lines that run from the corners of the mouth to the jaw. This creates a lower lift to the face and removes the sad expression that comes with age.
I use Botox to soften frown lines and crows feet. The overall effect is stunning and wipes at least 5 years off your face with minimal downtime.
