Recova FAQs

Why should I wear a post-operative compression garment after my surgery?

In addition to skin incisions that usually result in discreet scars, cosmetic surgery typically results in some degree of damage to tissues that are hidden under the skin. Many surgical procedures often involve severing or removing connective tissue and delicate blood and lymph vessels. This damage can be small-scale or widespread depending on the type of surgery, and it can take months for your body to fully recover from the trauma. During the healing period your body needs to rebuild these injured structures. Connective tissue (collagen) must be replaced to ensure that your skin is held firmly in place. In addition, the network of capillaries which supply your skin with oxygen-rich blood, and the lymph vessels which carry away excess tissue fluid must be restored. Whilst your body has to work very hard during this process, the rate of repair can be improved considerably with the sustained application of pressure to the affected area and post-operative compression garments are designed to provide this much-needed support in a way that conventional ‘sports compression’ products cannot replicate. They are manufactured from specialised materials to give the optimum amount of compression to the areas that require it and they are also designed for long-term wear.

Compression garments have the following main roles:

♦To provide sustained pressure and support to aid recovery;

♦To improve body contouring and skin retraction (i.e. minimise sagging);

♦To promote effective blood circulation in the affected area;

♦To help your body flush out potentially harmful toxins.

♦To minimise the risk of complications (e.g. infection or thrombosis);

♦To improve comfort, control pain and reduce swelling (oedema).

Put simply, post-operative compression garments are an essential aid to recovery after cosmetic surgery and this is why plastic surgeons typically recommend wearing such products for the duration of the healing period.

Why should I purchase an Recova Garment?

Specialised Design: It is crucial that the garment you wear after your surgery is specifically designed for this purpose, as opposed to conventional sports support wear or women’s support girdles. Our products are designed from specialised materials that allow them to be worn for long periods of time, and have additional features to aid the healing process and improve comfort. These include zippers and hook & eye fastenings to make it easier to put them on and take them off comfortably, flat seams to reduce irritation and an open crotch to make visits to the bathroom a lot easier.

Quality Assurance: All our products are manufactured to a high standard in the USA using the highest quality ‘four-way stretch’ lycra/nylon powernet elastic fabrics with 55% Lycra content, the highest on the post-operative garment market. In addition, all our products are latex and formaldehyde free.

Experience: The manufacturers of our products have over 25 years of combined experience in the compression wear industry and the director of Recova Post Surgery has personal experience of cosmetic surgery and works alongside consultant plastic surgeons to assist patients with post-surgery care.

Customer Service: Your satisfaction as a customer is of the utmost importance to us and we aim to help you to achieve a rapid and smooth post-operative rehabilitation by providing you with high quality compression garments and a quick, efficient service. We are also happy to answer any questions you may have regarding post-operative garments so please do not hesitate to contact us if you are unsure of anything.

What type of post-operative garment should I buy?

We offer a wide variety of compression garments, each designed for specific needs. Our products are designed to provide the optimal compression and support for the area of the body which has been operated on. Therefore it is very important to choose the right type of garment, and your surgeon should be able to give guidance on the most appropriate product to suit your requirements. In addition, we will also be happy to offer advice on the most suitable products within our extensive range.

Do our garments contain latex?

Unlike some suppliers, all of our garments are latex and formaldehyde free.

What if my measurements do not fit within the sizing chart?

We will gladly arrange for a custom garment to be made for you. Please have your measurements ready when contacting us and we will have your garment ready as soon as possible, normally within 10 to 15 days.

What are our garments made of?

Our garments are manufactured from ‘four-way stretch’ lycra/nylon powernet elastic fabrics with 55% Lycra content, the highest on the post-operative garment market. The material is strong, durable and breathable and is designed to wick moisture away from the skin for added comfort. There is no latex in our garments and they are also formaldehyde free.

How do I wash my garment?

For the optimum care of your garment it is best to wash it on a cold, gentle cycle in your washing machine with a mild detergent (preferably non-biological detergent to prevent skin irritation). Hang to dry and not over a radiator. Tumble drying could damage the fabric.

How quickly will my garment ship?

If the garment is in stock, most orders received before 3pm should arrive within 1-2 working days by First Class Recorded Delivery. However, we recommend that you place your order at least seven days before your operation.

What is the return policy?

You may return your garment within 14 days for a refund as long as:-

It is in its original condition;

It has not been worn;

It is in its original packaging;

It is not a custom garment.

Bridge2Aid

More than 70% of the world's population have no access to the simplest of dental pain relief, leaving billions to face a daily battle with pain in the toughest of life circumstances.

Bridge2Aid was founded as a response to this terrifying problem, by providing access to dental pain relief and to help the millions of people suffering in the developing world. Focussing on sustainability, and with the help of dentists and nurses from the UK, they train more than 48 health workers each year with plans for expansion. Because of this work, an estimated 1.7 million people now live within reach of someone who can help them when they have dental pain.

Bridge2Aid sends around 120 volunteer dentists and nurses from the UK out to East Africa to help train local health workers in basic extraction techniques. This is an area where people have no access to pain relief, leaving millions in pain, and often it lasts years - leaving people unable to work and feed their families.

There are Clinical Officers in place who look after around 20,000 people and dress wounds, deliver babies etc but they don't have any dental training - so this is where we come in! They have 1 week theory and then spend 2 weeks of intensive hands-on training time with our volunteers. If they "pass" the programme, they are given all the equipment they will need to care for their own communities.
