Types of Cellulite Treatment

There are a number of treatments designed to treat cellulite. Here we will focus on two treatments have received American Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) approval for this indication: Endermologie and VelaSmooth. Other treatments that can be used to target cellulite include mesotherapy and radio frequency. See our Mesotherapy and Radiofrequency Body Treatments sections for more information.

VelaSmooth

VelaSmooth is an FDA approved non-invasive treatment for the reduction of cellulite and the smoothing of unwanted bumps and bulges. It can be used to treat cellulite on the thighs, buttocks, calves and arms and is suitable for all skin types and skin colors. The treatment machine has a hand piece that uses vacuum suction and massage from mechanical rollers to stimulate blood circulation in the treated area and reduce cellulite. This combined action increases the oxygen in the cells and massages the hypodermis (the deepest layer of the skin) to drain retained fluids through the body’s lymphatic system. The heat from the infrared laser and the bi-polar RF energy is directed under the skin and this releases energy stored in the fat calls, which results in the shrinkage of the cell, reducing the volume and the outward dimpled appearance of cellulite. The dimpled appearance of cellulite appears reduced after a few Velasmooth treatment sessions, the skin appears smoother and the treated area is gradually reshaped and firmed.

Endermologie

Endermologie was the world’s first ‘cellulite’ treatment to be approved by the FDA. The FDA agreed that the treatment ‘temporarily reduces the circumferential body measurements in cellulite treated areas’. Endermologie uses a motorised device with adjustable rollers and controlled suction, which gently pulls, pinches and rolls the skin to reduce localised fat and cellulite to break down fat, reduce water retention and remove toxins. It also boosts collagen and elastin production to tighten the skin. The treatment promises to produce visible results after just three hours. Over a course of treatment you can also expect to see inch loss and reduction of cellulite in your problem areas. Results can last for up to six months and maintained with a monthly treatment.
