Before Botox treatment
Botox® is a very quick, safe procedure so, unlike cosmetic surgery, you can often have your consultation and treatment on the same day. The most important thing is to do your research and find someone who is experienced and qualified to do Botox® injections. It is important to remember that Botox® is a prescription medicine so must be prescribed by a doctor, surgeon or dentist. Nurses can perform the treatment but, unless they are a qualified nurse prescriber, you will need to speak to a doctor first. In some cases this is done over the phone. Beauty therapists, hairdressers and other non-medically trained people cannot inject Botox®.
During your consultation your doctor should take a full medical history and explain the treatment fully to you. You will then be asked to sign a consent form, which you should read carefully. The consultation is also a good opportunity to discuss your expectations of the treatment and ask any questions about how it will work for you.
Your doctor will usually take photographs of you frowning, raising your brows and smiling in order to make a before and after comparison. You can ask to see pictures of other patients to see how natural the work they have done before is.
