Penile Augmentation Surgery

Penile augmentation surgery is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to increase both the length and girth of the penis. While some men may feel insecure about the size of their penis, leading to low self-esteem and feeling of sexual inadequacy, the decision to have penile surgery is not one to be taken lightly.

There are many pills, potions, pumps and massage techniques touted on the internet which promise to enhance what nature gave you, however there is no clinical evidence to back up these methods. If you are looking for a permanent solution to increase the size of the penis, the only successful way of altering the size and shape of a penis is through a surgical procedure.

If you decide on penile augmentation surgery, then both lengthening and widening procedures are available in the UK. The main type of penile augmentation surgery available in the UK is called a penoplasty operation, where the augmentation is either in the length of the penis, achieved by cutting the ligaments which attach it to the body to allow it to drop down further, or in the girth (width) of the penis, with the use of fat transfer techniques. Often to create a more natural look, both lengthening and augmenting the girth will be performed at the same time, although one or the other can be performed as a single operation.

Am I a Candidate? Men with a smaller than average penis who feel insecure about the size of their penis, leading to low self-esteem and feelings of sexual inadequacy, are the usual candidates for penile augmentation surgery.

Before Surgery – Before penile augmentation surgery, set out your expectations with your surgeon and find out whether the operation can give you the results you desire. Due to the psychological implications of such surgery, some surgeons will insist you visit a counsellor to discuss particular anxieties and circumstances. Make sure that you obtain as much information as is necessary to enable you to make a fully informed choice.

During Surgery – Penile surgery is usually performed under a local or general anaesthetic and takes 1-2 hours, depending on whether you have a lengthening procedure, an enlargement procedure, or both.

In a lengthening procedure, a small incision is made above the base of the penis, and the ligament which suspends it (running from the pubic bone to the top of the penis) is cut. This causes the penis to drop forward, thereby lengthening its appearance from the outside by 1-2 inches. The ligament is then re-attached lower down and a flap of skin, taken from the pubic bone area, is used to cover the new extension. The incision will be sewn up with dissolvable stitches.

To enlarge or increase the girth of the penis, a small liposuction procedure is required first to obtain fat from the abdomen or thighs which can be transferred to the penis by injection. As the fat is injected into the penis, it avoids incision scars and reduces the recovery time required. The penis can usually be increased in girth or circumference by 1-2 inches.

It may be necessary to have a circumcision performed at the same time as the lengthening and/or enlargement procedure, as this avoids swelling of the foreskin, which can last for several weeks.

Recovery – You will need to rest and recover for a week following the operation and avoid exercise or sexual activity for 4-6 weeks. With the enlargement procedure, there is a risk that the body will reabsorb up to 30% of the fat that has been injected into the penis. If required, a top-up procedures can be carried out after six months, creating long-lasting final results.

Benefits – Penile augmentation surgery can provide a real boost to self-confidence, self-esteem and diminish feelings of sexual inadequacy.

Risks and Complications – Following penoplasty you should expect some pain and discomfort for a few days. There will normally be some swelling, numbness and bruising to the area which should fade after a couple of weeks. Very rare complications can include bleeding, infection, nerve damage, and a ‘lop-sided’ appearance to the penis after the operation. Most importantly, it is essential to have realistic expectations of what penile augmentation surgery can achieve to avoid disappointment with the results.

Penile Surgery Cost – Costs for penile surgery range from £3500-£5000 for lengthening procedures and £1000-£2500 for enlargement procedures. The price for both procedures to be performed at the same time is around £5000.

Choosing a Cosmetic  Surgeon in the U.K – Only fully trained and qualified plastic surgeons should perform penile surgery. As this is a very private operation, ensure you have a good rapport with your surgeon.

Bridge2Aid

More than 70% of the world's population have no access to the simplest of dental pain relief, leaving billions to face a daily battle with pain in the toughest of life circumstances.

Bridge2Aid was founded as a response to this terrifying problem, by providing access to dental pain relief and to help the millions of people suffering in the developing world. Focussing on sustainability, and with the help of dentists and nurses from the UK, they train more than 48 health workers each year with plans for expansion. Because of this work, an estimated 1.7 million people now live within reach of someone who can help them when they have dental pain.

Bridge2Aid sends around 120 volunteer dentists and nurses from the UK out to East Africa to help train local health workers in basic extraction techniques. This is an area where people have no access to pain relief, leaving millions in pain, and often it lasts years - leaving people unable to work and feed their families.

There are Clinical Officers in place who look after around 20,000 people and dress wounds, deliver babies etc but they don't have any dental training - so this is where we come in! They have 1 week theory and then spend 2 weeks of intensive hands-on training time with our volunteers. If they "pass" the programme, they are given all the equipment they will need to care for their own communities.
