Hi – thanks for your question. It's a very common worry people have and every surgoen would discuss this issue with every woman of child-bearing age who was having a consultation for breast augmentation.

I have five key points for you to bare in mind but the key point is that it would be totally fine for you to have saline implants AND become pregnant.

1. Implants do not interfere with pregnancy.

Most breast implants have a soft silicone shell filled with saline water. Breast implants therefore do not harm or pose a risk to normal pregnancy.

2. Pregnancy does not interfere with the implants.

Whilst in rare cases implants may deflate or harden, breast implants are usually no trouble during pregnancy. While the breasts will usually increase in size during pregnancy this does not involve or affect the implants themselves.

3. Most women can breast-feed.

Breast implants do not interfere with breast-feeding. Implants are placed under the muscle and allows for an extra layer of protection between the implants and the milk ducts.

4. Augmented breasts are less likely to lose shape during/after pregnancy.

Because the augmented breasts maintain more of their volume (because the implant volume does not decrease), women with implants are less likely to see drastic changes in the shape of their breasts after prgnancy and breast feeding.

5. You need a qualified plastic surgeon.

It is important to check whether the surgeon is registered by the General Medical Council and you’ll be able to do this by checking their website (www.gmc-uk.org/). You should also see if they are listed on the BAAPS website (www.baaps.org.uk/ ). Discuss these points in depth with your surgeon at your consultation.

Good luck – please let us know how you get on!

Cool Hi, I'm 21 and want more rounder fuller breasts. Right now they stay like the tips of ice cream cones,

unless there's an extreme temperature change, like when I go for a hot bath or change my shirt in cold

temps, then they're so round and full and I love them. But the rest of the time I don't feel sexy. I really

just want to get implants, but I want to be a mother more than anything. So I want to wait until after

I have kids to see how they are after pregnancy, I also want to wait for anything to be done until after

pregnancy because I'm worried that if I get my breasts done now, and then have kids it will affect their

nutrition when I breast feed. But that's not for a couple of years. But until I have kids I feel like I'm stuck with

how my breasts are. I want to feel sexy naked, I've already tried enlargement pills and loads of breast firming

creams, but my breasts just stay the same. I would just get them done but I don't want to do anything that

will harm the chances of me having a healthy baby, but I don't want to wait years to feel confident, I want to

feel sexy now and not have cone breasts!!! Yell Is there anything I can do?

Bridge2Aid

More than 70% of the world's population have no access to the simplest of dental pain relief, leaving billions to face a daily battle with pain in the toughest of life circumstances.

Bridge2Aid was founded as a response to this terrifying problem, by providing access to dental pain relief and to help the millions of people suffering in the developing world. Focussing on sustainability, and with the help of dentists and nurses from the UK, they train more than 48 health workers each year with plans for expansion. Because of this work, an estimated 1.7 million people now live within reach of someone who can help them when they have dental pain.

Bridge2Aid sends around 120 volunteer dentists and nurses from the UK out to East Africa to help train local health workers in basic extraction techniques. This is an area where people have no access to pain relief, leaving millions in pain, and often it lasts years - leaving people unable to work and feed their families.

There are Clinical Officers in place who look after around 20,000 people and dress wounds, deliver babies etc but they don't have any dental training - so this is where we come in! They have 1 week theory and then spend 2 weeks of intensive hands-on training time with our volunteers. If they "pass" the programme, they are given all the equipment they will need to care for their own communities.
