BOOB JOBS AND BOXING: A KNOCKOUT TECHNOLOGY
Cosmetic Surgeons’ Newest Therapy Now Adopted by World Championship Contender
New healing technology hailed by some of the world’s top aesthetic plastic surgeons as the ideal solution for their face-lift and boob job patients has now been adopted by champion heavyweight contender David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye for his own personal use to prepare for, and recuperate after fights – such as his upcoming encounter with 7-foot-tall ‘Beast from the East’ Nikolai Valuev. Hilotherapy (www.hilotherapy.co.uk), a revolutionary, patented treatment which drastically reduces post-trauma swelling and pain –in many instances eliminating bruising altogether- avoids the risk of nerve and tissue damage by using controlled cold temperatures.
The system, which circulates cool water through adaptable cuffs that comfortably fit most parts of the body and face, was introduced to the UK earlier this month at the recent Scientific Meeting of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), where the conference’s keynote speaker, top craniofacial expert Norman Waterhouse, referred to it the ideal option to ensure post-surgery patients return to normal activities in record time.
According to Stuart Watkins, Hilotech’s Director;
“The trouble with traditional coolants such as the ice compresses, gel pads or even bags of frozen peas is they stop the healing process and studies over the last few decades show they are potentially dangerous and can seriously damage skin and tissue – even cause frostbite/paralysis. Unlike Hilotherapy, an advanced pain management solution proven to improve the healing time and dramatically reduce swelling, pain and bruising.”
Following in the footsteps of Evander Holyfield by competing in the heavyweight division after remaining undefeated in the cruiserweight title, English professional boxer ‘The Hayemaker’ was forced to withdraw from the fight scheduled in June because of an injury. Haye’s upcoming encounter with Heavyweight World Champion Nikolai Valuev has now been rescheduled for the 7th November 2009. To treat his injury and get him ready for the upcoming encounter his physiotherapist Kevin Lidlow, who has also served as GB Team Physiotherapist to Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, World and European Championships, introduced him to the Hilotherapy system. Lidlow was familiar with the revolutionary technology as it’s already widely used by top athletes and professional sports clubs around Europe including Bundesliga teams 1899 Hoffenheim, Bayern Munich and Hannover 96.
According to David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye;
“I was thoroughly impressed with how comfortable and effective the treatment is for both new and old injuries – I knew I had to purchase one for myself as it would help me recuperate much faster. I’m looking forward to being fit and ready for the November fight with the help of Hilotherapy.”
Hilotherapy can be used all over the body: anywhere where swelling, pain and haematoma are present or need to be prevented. The adaptable cuffs can be set at the exact required temperature, to the degree, anywhere between +10°C and +30°C to promote the body’s natural healing forces.
According to Stuart Watkins;
“Hilotherapy is set to revolutionise medicinal therapy and can be applicable to a number of fields – it is currently widely used in sports injury, plastic surgery, maxillofacial and orthopaedic surgery but can be used for a number of other applications.”
According to Norman Waterhouse, consultant plastic surgeon and former President of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), who has trialled the treatment;
“There is good evidence that this technology has been effective in reducing bruising and swelling after major facial surgery. Early results from using it for facelifts have been very encouraging.”
Dr. Charlotte Cowie, who was Head of Medical Services to Tottenham Spurs and Chief Medical Officer Team GB at 2000 Olympics, asserts;
“This is the only device which keeps the temperature at a constant and therapeutic level – clearly there is good scientific reasoning behind it.”
The Hilotherapy system is also applicable in ENT Medicine, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Ophthalmology, Physiotherapy / Rehabilitative Medicine, Rheumatology and Dentistry, among others.
