The Dairy DietRather than conjouring nightmares, it seems a diet of cheese can actually give you a dream figure. A recent study has found that a diet packed with cheese and other dairy products can help you to shed those excess pounds.

Australian slimmers were put on low-calorie diets which included varying amounts of cheese, yoghurt and low-fat milk. The results revealed that those who boosted their daily servings of dairy from three to five lost the most weight. They also had lower blood pressure, less fat around the stomach area and ‘significantly improved’ chances of avoiding heart disease and diabetes than those who ate a dairy-free diet.

The researchers, from Curtin University of Technology in Perth, said that although dairy products are widely perceived as being fatty, they have a place in the slimmer’s shopping basket as they are high in protein. This means that they help you to feel full quickly and they also speed up the metabolism to help you burn more fat.

Dieters, however, should still keep an eye on their fat and calorie intake. Laura Wyness, of the British Nutrition Foundation, said dairy products were a good source of calcium and vitamins, as well as protein, but cheeses can also be high in salt so you should always check the label before buying.
