New smile following rollercoaster accident
When a rollercoaster accident left Ridhi Patel with damaged teeth, leading to root canal work and dental treatment in her native India, her smile was never the same. Her gums were out of line and poorly executed orthodontics meant she felt self-conscious about her smile. But a hygienist appointment changed all that after she moved to the UK. The 26-year-old was told her gums needed treatment in order to prevent gum disease in later life. She saw leading London cosmetic dentist Dr Anoop Maini of Aqua Dental Spa (www.aquadentalspa.com <http://www.aquadentalspa.com> ), who suggested she have her gumline moved and explained that advancements in orthodontic treatment meant she could straighten her teeth in just months as oppose to years with Six Month Smiles – a new speedy orthodontic treatment. Ridhi opted for this and is thrilled with the result.
Says Ridhi:
“The accident happened when I was 12 and the safety bar failed, causing me to hit my head and teeth on the seat in front. My teeth were cracked and damaged so I was grateful that something could be done to restore my smile but I was never truly happy with the results. It was something I lived with and didn’t really consider doing anything about it until I moved to the UK and even then, it was just a routine appointment that led to me considering treatment. I just wasn’t aware of the options and thought orthodontics would mean years of wearing an ugly brace. The Six Month Smile is barely noticeable and the results so fast. I’m delighted with my new smile!”
Dr Anoop Maini says advancements in orthodontics have meant this has become hugely popular among adults – especially those who may have ditched treatment in their teens.
According to Dr Maini, clinic founder and member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD):
“There has been a significant rise in the number of adults coming for orthodontic treatment at my practice, with four out of five (78 per cent) of those actually having ditched treatment during their teenage years. For people whose teeth are in good condition and strong, but just crooked or uneven, speedy orthodontic systems such as the Six Month Smiles are a great option – quicker and cheaper than traditional orthodontics.”
Six Month Smiles uses small, tooth-coloured wires and brackets to create low force movement for minimal discomfort as the teeth are gently repositioned. The cost is around half that of traditional braces or clear plastic options such as Invisalign, and only short appointments lasting around ten minutes are needed every 4-5 weeks for adjustment. In the UK it is a new technique, but in the US hundreds of patients have undergone the Six Month Smiles program of treatment with fantastic success.
Dr Maini added:
“This is a great solution to quickly correcting crooked teeth, and although there are other systems on the market that straighten teeth in a short amount of time, they have more limitations in terms of the type of patient that are suitable for them.”
Six Month Smiles starts from £1,250, and is the latest addition of innovative treatments offered at Aqua Dental Spa. The clinic combines cosmetic dentistry and facial aesthetics to provide a holistic approach to the smile. Clinic founder Dr Maini believes that although great things can be achieved through cosmetic dentistry, other aspects of the smile such as the lips and face itself can dramatically affect the end result. Aqua Dental Spa offers facial aesthetics such as slight enhancing of the lips or smoothing out nose to mouth lines to help patients achieve the best result.
Other services offered include veneers, tooth coloured fillings, whitening, bridges and Invisalign (invisible braces). General dentistry services are also available such as hygiene services, root canal work, dentures and preventative care. In addition, the facial aesthetics services include lip definition and enhancement with cosmetic fillers and facial line and wrinkle reduction using Botox. Dr Maini is fully qualified to carry out these procedures and is a Gold Member of the International Academy of Advanced Facial Aesthetics.
The centre also offers relaxing spa services such as head and neck massages before and after treatment, soothing hand massages, scented neck cushions and gel eye masks.
