Makeup Advice Forum
Since 2005, Sam Donald and her team at www.MakeupAdviceForum.co.uk have been advising brides-to-be with their honest and impartial advice on makeup and beauty for their wedding days. In recent times though, there has been more ‘call’ for general makeup enquiries and advice, and as a result, MAF, as it is affectionately known, has had a total rebrand and relaunch in June of this year.
Already nominated and shortlisted for a BT award (coming in behind Confetti and Hitched, but knocking out Cosmopolitan Bride no less!) and with recommendations in You and Your Wedding Magazine and The TIMES Online, MAF is rapidly becoming well known to the beauty companies as a site with truthful and honest reviews, yet never harsh or offensive.
With a very busy forum of makeup artists, student artists, brides, new mums and regular women, and an age range from 19-62, everyone there gets on well. No fighting, no squabbling, just grown up conversation!
Following the relaunch, we decided to overhaul the directory too, and regionalise it, taking out the artists who use ‘stock shots’ in their portfolios, and putting tighter guidelines on, with artists only being allowed to display work that they themselves had created – the integrity of the MAF registered artist has to be maintained and we only recommend artists who are able to stand by their own work as a representation of them and their ability.
MAF is no longer just for the bride to be, but also for the regular woman who’s makeup bag is stuck 20 years out of date, for the makeup artist looking to expand their kit or change their career path, and also for the student embarking on a makeup career, but with no idea where to start. Our students are mentored by a team of artists whose experience ranges from TV and film, to fashion editorial, to beauty and through to bridal and the like.
What makes us different, and always has done, is that anyone and everyone is welcome on the forum, and it’s a chance for regular women to talk to a real professional makeup artist, and some hairstylists too, and to find out what they use in their professional life and how it could translate to the regular woman in her daily life.
The change to the main site has been great. Formerly a flat information portal, it’s now moving and growing, with product reviews from makeup artists and the forum regulars, campaigns and articles from Safe Beauty to Simplifying skincare and a growing collection of Makeup Breakdowns
I wanted to take this opportunity to just let you know about us, about who we are, where we are, and where we’re going!
