Top tips for aging skin
As we get older, our skin gradually starts to show signs of aging. The collagen and elastin in the skin naturally start to degrade. While aging can’t be completely prevented, we can reduce the signs of aging (such as age spots, wrinkles, and sagging) and keep skin in a healthier condition through the use of a number of different techniques…
1. Wear SPF Daily
Even if you’re not consciously in the sun, the minimal exposure you get from driving, walking to the shops, etc starts to add up over time. Wearing a moisturiser or foundation for your skin type with added SPF (recommended spf15-spf30) reduces the suns negative impacts.
2. Exfoliate
It’s better to exfoliate with chemical exfoliating ingredients such as Lactic Acid and Retinol rather then a scrub, about 3 times a week. Chemical exfoliants keep skin youthful by lightening sun spots and catalysing the cell renewal process. The ingredients also help retexturize the skin giving it a smoother, healthier and more youthful appearance.
3. Use ingredients that stimulate new collagen
The presence of ingredients like Grape Extract, Magnesium, Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C), Soy Isoflavanoids and White and Green Tea in your daily moisturiser helps the skin stimulate its own collagen, which decreases the sagging of the skin.
4. Incorporate antioxidants in your routine
Although antioxidants can’t reverse the effects of aging, they can help prevent future problems. Aging starts to occur when skin cells are damaged, as they aren’t functioning normally. Antioxidants stabilize damaged skin cells, preventing them from being more harmful. Ingredients like Vitmains A, C or E, Grape Seed Extract, Gingko Biloba Leaf Extract, Green Tea, White Tea or Wheat Germ Extract are all good sources of Antioxidants.
5. Laser Treatments
If you’re looking for a quick way to reverse the effects of ageing, Laser Treatments can be an effective option. Check out the Laser Resurfacing section of the website to learn more about this process and what is involved. Lasers can really help repair sun damaged skin at a much deeper level than skin care products alone.
6. Injectables
Lines and wrinkles can be easily and quickly reduced by fillers and botox. There is a wide range of information on the non-surgical procedure pages on our website that are great to look at if you are considering botox or fillers. Botox paralyses the muscles in the face, while fillers are designed to fill in the wrinkles so they become smooth. Your doctor can advise you which option might be better for you. The ‘find a specialist near you’ section of our website can help you find a great Doctor to help make your decision and carry out your treatment.
7. Make-up
Make up is an easy, cheap and reversible answer to the signs of aging. A good concealer (slightly lighter than your natural tone) can cover age spots and dark circles under the skin while reflecting light to hide dark areas. A good moisturizing foundation evens the skin tone and gives a glowing healthy appearance.
