PRIVATE PRACTICE POLICY INTRODUCED
Beautysure, the world’s first cosmetic surgery insurance package designed for patient purchase and underwritten by Lloyd’s of London, has announced that single policies are now also available to individual clinics and private practices, to cover all or as many of their patients as they wish.
The policy, which only costs £225, pays out the cost of corrective procedures up to £4,000 and covers the most common complications including capsular contracture, infections, scarring requiring surgery, MRSA and others – although not straightforward aesthetic ‘dissatisfaction’.
This flexible option, available only to practitioners who are members of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) or the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), allows the private practice to be sole policy holder with no up front financial commitment. Beautysure offers the only third party guarantee in existence and can be renewed annually for a further two years.
According to Juliet Bentley, Founding Director of Beautysure Insurance Products Ltd.;
“Because of the overwhelming consumer media attention surrounding the launch of Beautysure, many prospective cosmetic surgery patients already see this product as added –indeed, expected- value from their chosen provider. Whether the patients take out the insurance themselves as individuals, or the surgeons choose the option of insuring them all via one policy covering their entire practice, Beautysure can finally eliminate the worry all round of financial burdens, should complications occur.”
As policy holders, surgeons also maintain ownership of the process, as, should the unthinkable happen, they will advise the patient where to go or whom to proceed with for any corrective procedures.
Juliet, who had the idea to launch this product when undergoing cosmetic surgery herself, adds:
“In regards to pricing, clinics have the flexibility to charge the patient at whichever reasonable rate they feel suits their brand offering, so it’s an added revenue stream. Alternatively, they may choose to absorb the cost themselves, simply as a med mal suit deterrent. Those who do not wish to be a policy holder can simply pass on our advice line to the patient – and leave the rest to us!”

I think this article about cosmetic surgery insurance is really interesting. I think its great that there is some type of insurance because even if you go to the best cosmetic surgeon, there still can be problems with your plastic surgery afterwards and i’m sure patients will feel a lot more at ease..
